A collection of 13 reports on lessons learned from Hurricane Sandy related to health systems and services. The report’s first section includes and Executive Summary of each article.

Common recommendations included filling gaps in planning, communication and coordination, more integrated systems, more practice and training between facilities, building in redundancies, clarifying authority, preparing for environmental health impacts and addressing power grid concerns, data needs, and shelter requirements.

One of the reports, “A Stronger, More Resilient New York” by Plan NYC, specifically addressed resilient construction of healthcare facilities. It summarized problems that arose during and after Sandy, and offers 19 suggestions for improvement. The recommendations focused on three themes – retrofitting facilities to 500-year flood standards, securing power and funding.
