Emergency Support Functions (ESFs) - The structure for coordinating federal interagency support for a federal response to an incident. They are mechanisms used to provide federal support to states and federal-to-federal support in Stafford Act and non-Stafford Act incidents. ESFs can be provided for 15 different essential functions.

Essential Records - According to FEMA, “Information systems technology, applications and infrastructure, electronic and hardcopy documents, references and records needed to support the continued performance of essential functions during a continuity activation.”

Evacuation - According to FEMA, “The organized, phased and supervised withdrawal, dispersal or removal of civilians from dangerous or potentially dangerous areas, and their reception and care in safe areas.”

Exercise - According to FEMA, “An instrument to train for, assess, practice and improve performance in prevention, protection, response and recovery capabilities in a risk-free environment.”

FCO - Federal Coordinating Officer

Federal Register notice - The Federal Register is the official journal of the U.S. government that contains government agency rules, proposed rules and public notices. Allocations and grant awards made under the Department of Housing and Urban Development's Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery program are published by HUD as a Federal Register notice. The notice will outline program rules and requirements, in addition to any waivers issued.
