Tips for Streamlining the Inspection Process

  • The most important thing during an inspection is accommodating the homeowner. Have a route planned for how you will navigate through the home; typically floor-by-floor works best.

Have a streamlined template for inspection reports. 

  • Use a spreadsheet that includes a description of each line item.
  • Put the line items in the same order as they are on the checklist used during the inspection to speed up the data entry process.
  • Label each line item simply, with pass, fail or re-inspect. 

Be consistent on inspection reports.

  • Establish a required turnaround time for inspection reports, such as 24 or 48 hours.
  • Be consistent and detailed in naming files to know exactly what you’re looking at; for example, “Midpoint Inspection 3” or “Direct Grant Final.”
