Tips for Streamlining the Inspection Process
Conduct the inspection quickly to accommodate the homeowner.
- The most important thing during an inspection is accommodating the homeowner. Have a route planned for how you will navigate through the home; typically floor-by-floor works best.
Have a streamlined template for inspection reports.
- Use a spreadsheet that includes a description of each line item.
- Put the line items in the same order as they are on the checklist used during the inspection to speed up the data entry process.
- Label each line item simply, with pass, fail or re-inspect.
Be consistent on inspection reports.
- Establish a required turnaround time for inspection reports, such as 24 or 48 hours.
- Be consistent and detailed in naming files to know exactly what you’re looking at; for example, “Midpoint Inspection 3” or “Direct Grant Final.”
