This tool, created by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Service’s (HHS) Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), is intended to help medical institutions and localities evaluate and select temporary medical facility locations. Emergency managers and other stakeholders can use this tool, or distribute it to local medical facilities for use.

The tool allows users to rate the necessity of various features for a facility in a given disaster scenario, and then enter the actual features of a facility to produce a weighted score. The tool uses the weighted scores to automatically generate a comparison of up to six facilities under consideration. Instructions for use are included in the document.

The Illinois Medical Emergency Response Team (IMERT) also provides a similar tool in fillable PDF format. IMERT’s “Temporary Medical Treatment Station Selection Tool ” allows stakeholders to evaluate a single disaster alternative care facility with more in-depth, descriptive information.
