Video: Administrator Brock Long Addresses Nation’s Counties

FEMA administrator Brock Long explains the role of FEMA in disaster recovery and stresses the importance of disaster preparedness at the National Association of Counties (NACo) 2018 Legislative Conference. In his talk, Long notes that in his 17 years in emergency management, there are three things he’s learned:
- “First, all disasters begin and end at the local level.”
- “Two, I don’t care who you are, I don’t care what your politics are…when a disaster strikes, it requires all of us, we’re all in it together to be able to help our citizens respond and recover.”
- “The third thing I’ve learned is every time I change jobs, something catastrophic happens.”
Long was confirmed by the U.S. Senate and began his service as the head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in June 2017. Mr. Long has more than 16 years of experience assisting and supporting the federal, state and local governments with building robust emergency management and public health preparedness programs.
